Haitham Mohamadeen
a Lawyer, human rights defender and leading member of the Revolutionary Socialists movement.
He is remanded in custody pending Case No. 1956 of 2019.
Haitham Mohamadeen was known for his influential activities inside Egypt, he participated in the January Revolution and the workers' protests in 2008 January.
After the January Revolution, he became a prominent leader in the Socialist Revolutionary Party and was opposed to the military trials for civilians and the protest law in 2013, one of the founders of the “Revolution Road Front “and a member of the Nadim Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence.
Because of his activities and defending human rights, he was arrested several times in 2016 because of his participation in protests against transfer the dependency of the islands “Tiran and Sanafir” to Saudi Arabia, and in 2018 in the case of the metro protests.
On May 13, 2019, Haitham Mohamadeen was arrested and forcibly disappeared for 3 days, then appeared in State Security Prosecution and accused of joining an illegal group and publishing false news in Case No. 741 of 2019.
On March 9, 2021, the court decided to release him, but he was not released afterwards, and on March 10, 2021, he was accused in a new case No. 1956 of 2019 on charge of joining an illegal group, which is the same charge in which he was accused in the previous case.
To time, he is remanded in custody pending the case, and it is reported that in the last interrogation sessions, the detention of the Lawyer Haitham Mohamadeen was automatically renewed for 15 days pending the investigation, although the State Security Prosecution or National Security did not provide any evidence to prove the validity of the accusations against him.
