Ramy Shaath
a Palestinian-Egyptian human rights defender and coordinator of the Egyptian Popular Campaign to boycott Israel (BDS Egypt), He was born in 1971.

To date, he is remanded in custody pending Case 930 of 2019.

Ramy Shaath is known for defending human rights in Egypt, monitoring Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, including killings of children and women, forced displacement, and apartheid. Besides, he opposes the process of normalization between Israel and Egypt.

Because of his influential activities, he was arrested by Egyptian security services on July 5, 2019, and accused of joining an illegal group in Case No. 930 of 2019. Egyptian authorities also forcibly deported his French wife to her country without allowing her to visit him.

On April 18, 2020, without any legal justification, Ramy Shaath was accused In a new case, the No. 517 of 2020, and added to the secret service's list of individuals linked to terrorism. He was also issued a travel ban, therefore denying him any chance to leave the country.

At the time of writing, he is remanded in custody pending investigations, and during the last interrogation session in February 2021 his detention was renewed for 45 days, although the State Security Prosecution or National Security did not provide any evidence to prove the validity of the accusations against him.
